A cooked plate of sausages, bacon, eggs, baked beans, grilled tomato and mushrooms with fried bread, eaten as a weekend treat rather than a daily meal in most British homes.
Start the sausages
Fry the sausages in a little oil over medium heat, turning occasionally, until browned all over and no longer pink inside, about 15 minutes.
15 minCook tomatoes and mushrooms
In a separate pan, fry the halved tomatoes cut-side down with the sliced mushrooms in butter until the tomatoes soften and the mushrooms turn golden, about 8 minutes.
8 minFry the bacon
Add the bacon rashers to the sausage pan and fry until the fat turns crisp and golden at the edges, about 4 minutes per side.
8 minWarm the beans
Tip the baked beans into a small saucepan and heat gently, stirring now and then, until bubbling, about 5 minutes.
5 minFry the eggs
Crack the eggs into a hot buttered pan and fry until the whites are fully set and the yolks are still soft and runny, about 3 minutes.
3 minFry the bread
Fry the bread slices in the leftover bacon fat until golden and crisp on both sides, about 2 minutes per side.
Plate it all
Arrange the sausages, bacon, eggs, beans, tomatoes, mushrooms and fried bread together on warmed plates and serve immediately while everything is hot.
