Fried bread slices soaked in sweetened, cardamom-scented reduced milk and topped with nuts, a rich Hyderabadi dessert traditionally served at weddings and on Eid.
Fry the bread
Fry the bread slices in hot ghee until golden brown and crisp on both sides, then drain on paper.
Reduce the milk
Simmer the milk with the sugar and crushed cardamom pods, stirring occasionally, until it reduces and thickens noticeably.
Add saffron
Stir the saffron strands into the reduced milk and let it steep.
2 minArrange the bread
Lay the fried bread slices in a serving dish, slightly overlapping.
Soak in the milk
Pour the hot sweetened milk evenly over the fried bread and let it soak in fully.
Garnish and serve
Scatter over the sliced cashews, pistachios and raisins, and serve warm or chilled.
